MOSCOW Russia's Supreme Court on Wednesday declared legal the prohibition of propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia among minors. The law was appealed against by rights advocates for sexual minorities. The law was originally passed in St. Petersburg in November 2011, and entered into force in April 2012. Any violation of the law carries with it a fine of 5,000 rubles (EUR 125) for individuals, and up to 500,000 rubles (EUR 12,500) for legal entities. LGBT activists believe that the law is homophobic, and one of them - Nikolai Alekseev - was sentenced on that basis in May, after which he addressed the European Court of Human Rights.
