Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill served Christmas liturgy this morning in Moscow, that was attended by President Dmitry Medvedev. In his Christmas message, the patriarch called on all believers to be charitable to those in need, and noted that preoccupations of the daily life should not prevent them from following the teachings of Christ. "These values are carried on through the centuries by the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations in our country. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, attended church services in his hometown of St. Petersburg. He sent his holiday greetings to the patriarch and Orthodox believers, saying that Christmas "inspired people to gentle intentions and good deeds". Putin also stated he was convinced that the Church would continue to constructively cooperate with state and public institutions under Patriarch Kirill's leadership.
