Moscow does not accept plans to move NATO's military infrastructure closer to the Russian borders, Russian Foreign Minstry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko says. “Plans of spreading NATO military infrastructure closer to the Russian borders are unacceptable for us. At the same time, we are ready to develop relations with the alliance on equal terms for the benefit of Euro-Atlantic security,” he said. Russia won't accept NATO expansion plans Russia will seek a system of international relations based on the compliance with international laws, Nesterenko said on Friday in comments on the newly approved national security strategy for the period until 2020, Itar-Tass news agency reported. “Russia will target for reliable and equal security of all states and mutually beneficial cooperation of all members of the international community,” he said. “It will continue to focus on the relations with CIS member states, including regional and sub-regional integration within the CIS, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC).” “Russia views the CSTO as the main interstate instrument bound to resist regional threats and challenges, including the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances,” he said. Moscow gives special attention to “the strengthening of the political potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and its efforts aimed to build up confidence and partnership in Central Asia,” Nesterenko said. “Russia aims to strengthen the interaction with the European Union and to form an open system of collective security in Eurasia on the basis of clear accords.” “Russia will develop strategic partnership with the United States proceeding from common interests and key influence of Russia-U.S. relations on the international situation,” Nesterenko said. “It is important to mount interaction in such multilateral formats as the G-8, the G-20 and BRIC [Brazil, Russia, India and China],” he said. “The foreign policy of Russia will remain open and predictable,” he said.
