Scott addressed the gathering to note that "American people two days ago, on July 4, celebrated the 241st anniversary of their independence." "Our independence was proclaimed by people who risked their lives in the struggle for human dignity, for the right of the people to choose their own government and for the idea that the government exists to serve the people, not the other way around," Scott said.

He said that Americans "do not celebrate July 4 formally, but joyfully," and that on that day they gather together with friends and family to celebrate together. Scott also "thanked the friends in Serbia" who came to the US embassy to mark this important date for the American people.

Beside Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic was also in attendance, and ministers Jadranka Joksimovic, Aleksandar Vulin, Nenad Popovic, Aleksandar Antic, as well as opposition leaders - Dragan Sutanovac, Cedomir Antic, Nenad Canak.
