Doctors at the general hospital in Sombor, northern Serbia found a 25-centimeter knife in the esophagus of a man who complained of "pain in his throat."

The 40-year-old man who is now in a serious conditions, facing an uncertain prognosis, has been transported to the Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade.The medical staff in the Sombor hospital said it was "a miracle" he was able to reach the hospital and seek help by himself.
Dr. Zoran Parcetic said the case was highly unusual, and described the patient as "behaving quite normally, conscious, and communicating in an appropriate manner."
In order to protect the man's right to privacy, the hospital released only his gender and age, while the report said the staff "assume he is a psychiatric patient."
