Children's hospital gets new donation via B92 Fund campaign
The hospital received surgical instruments that are used in operations performed on newborn infants with small body mass. The donor was the company West Pharmaceutical Services from Kovin. The value of the donation is over EUR 15,000.
The handover ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Mila Stajevic Popovic, head of cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Igor Sehic, chief of the surgery block, representatives of West Pharmaceutical Services - Dejan Milutinovic, director of the company, Biljana Stojanovic, director of finance, Ivana Kolarevic, coordinator of the head office, as well as Veran Matic, president of the B92 Fund Board.
This is the second time that the company has helped the Institute with donations, and the fourth time it has taken part in the "Battle for Babies" and "Battle for Maternity Wards" campaigns. The overall value of the company's donations so far exceeds EUR 55,000.
After spending several years in the Children's Hospital in London, Dr. Mila Stajevic Popovic said that B92 Fund's role regarding the Institute was comparable to that of the fund of Princess Diana and her donations to the British institution. She praised the efforts made by the Fund to invest in improving the situation in the institutions dealing with the health of babies and children and said that this valuable donation of surgical instruments would add to the quality of complicated operations that experts of this service perform every day.
Igor Sehic expressed his gratitude for the donation, and said: "We are honored and pleased that this year, too, we have been recognized as an institution that is worth helping. We feel great gratitude towards the company West Pharmaceutical Services, as well as toward Mr. Dejan Milutinovic and all members of their collective for donating the most modern and extremely high quality instruments for operations on newborn infants with small body mass. We also thank the B92 Fund, which through its campaign enables the realization of these valuable donations. About 7,500 children are operated on every year in the surgical ward of the Institute, and we are confident that such a donation will contribute to greater quality of operations, faster recovery of our patients, and their as short as possible stay at the Institute."
"If we know that this is about hearts the size of strawberries and other organs of proportional size, it can be seen how important precision and new instruments are in performing the most complex operations done at the Institute. Along with regular training of doctors and medical staff, it is precisely the quality equipment that creates the possibility to extend the scope of interventions that mean life. That is why sensitized donors are also important, such as West Pharmaceutical, which above all take care of the most important needs of children's hospitals," said Matic.
During the "Battle for Babies", the Institute has been equipped with nine new incubators, while within the framework of the campaign "Battle for Maternity Wards" the purchase continued of valuable medical equipment. It is estimated that the Institute's normal operations require equipment worth nearly 200,000 euros, which is why the B92 Fund is inviting all donors to join "Battle for Maternity Wards" and help one of the most important and largest institutions of health care for women of generative age, preschool and schoolchildren in Serbia.
