Thorvald Stoltenberg made honorary citizen of Belgrade

"I live in the belief that I am representing thousands of citizens from Norway and Oslo and I can assure you that I will visit my city, Belgrade, in the years to come," Stoltenberg said, according to Tanjug.

At the ceremony in the City Hall, Stoltenberg received the charter from Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali and Belgrade City Assembly President Nikola Nikodijevic.

Stoltenberg was made an honorary citizen of Belgrade over his affirmation of the city and contribution to the development and improvement of cooperation and Norway-Serbia relations.

Another reason for this decision lies in the fact that Norway and Serbia share traditional good and friendly ties and strong political, cultural and economic cooperation.

The proposition for appointing Stoltenberg as the honorary citizen was filed by the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence which suggested that the title should be awarded during the 5th Belgrade Security Forum which will last until October 2.

The charter of an honorary citizen of Belgrade is the highest recognition delivered to exceptional figures, given this year also to Russian filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov and Austrian author Peter Handke.
