More than 2,000 migrants pour into southern town (photos)

During the night and morning on Wednesday more than 2,000 people from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries arrived in Presevo, southern Serbia.

He explained that 1,000 migrants are now in the local reception center, but that "more than that number" of people remain outside the facility.

Halimi said the Red Cross currently has enough food and hygiene products, but is running out of baby products, such as milk.

During the previous couple of days three times fewer migrants had been arriving to the temporary center.

The One Stop Center in Presevo was opened on July 8 to accommodate migrants and asylum seekers and provide them with administrative support in receiving documents, as well as medical care, food and water.

Due to the influx of men, women, and children, Red Cross activists in Presevo now work in three shifts, around the clock.

A temporary tent camp when migrants receive initial assistance was recently opened in Miratovac, about seven kilometers from Presevo near the Macedonian border.

Since June 21, doctors from the Military Hospital in the town of Nis are working in Presevo, examining between 70 and 100 migrants each day.

The migrants are crossing into Serbia from Macedonia, and from Serbia to Hungary, in their bid to reach the European Union and Scandinavia.
