Cross worth EUR 100k to be built above Serbian town

An Orthodox cross 33.5 meters high, weighing 40 tons, will be built on Mt. Stolovi near the town of Kraljevo, the Belgrade-based daily Blic writes.

The cross will be illuminated at night, with power generated from either the sun or the wind.

"The cross will be 33.5 meters tall, because that is how old Jesus was when he was crucified, will weigh 40 tons, and will be visible from many parts of Serbia, from Jasterbac, Rudnik, Kopaonik... the power for the illumination will be generated from solar cells or a small windmill that will be placed at the top. It's hard to say how much it will cost, certainly over EUR 100,000," said priest Ljubinko Kosic, who chairs a committee set up to build the cross.
