Representatives of education sector employees and Education Minister Srđan Verbić met on Tuesday in Belgrade but failed to resolve their differences.

Teachers to stage one-day strike over pay cuts

President of the Alliance of Education Trade Unions Dragan Matijević announced that representatives of four unions and the minister "agreed on all unimportant issues, but not on any important ones."

Matijević announced that these unions plan to organize more strikes in November by cutting classes to 30 minutes.

Verbić, on the other hand, said their announced protest was "pointless" because salary reductions were "inevitable."

"It is obvious that the education sector salaries are low," he added, and noted that "students should not suffer because of the unions' disagreement with government's decisions."
