A reception to celebrate Russia Day - the Russian Federation's national holiday marked on June 12 - was held in Belgrade on Tuesday.

Top Serbian officials attend Russia Day reception

Chepurin welcomed the guests late on Tuesday saying that Russia was marking 1,152 year of the country’s existence, and then looked back at the developments in Ukraine.

"We are now witnessing a fratricidal war in Ukraine. Earlier, we witnessed attempts to bite Russia in the leg, concerning the Olympics in Sochi. Now we are witnessing attempts to bite Russia's heart. We are also witnessing problems with the South Stream pipeline, although almost all European countries, as well as Serbia and Russia, are equally interested in it," Chepurin said.

He emphasized that Serbia and Russia share historical roots, faith, eastern Christian civilization, and "overcoming huge problems, and great successes."

Beside Ivica Dačić, other members of the cabinet in attendance included Zorana Mihajlović, Nebojša Stefanović, Ivan Tasovac, Kori Udovički, Bratislav Gašić, and Vanja Udovičić.

Chief of the Serbian Army General Staff Gen. Ljubiša Diković, and War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević were also at the embassy.
