Kingdom of Yugoslavia in League of Nations exhibition opens

The exhibition was opened by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić and State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Information Dejan Ristić.

”I see the call for me to address the guests as the minister of internal affairs of Serbia as a unique recognition for the Serbian diplomacy which is trying to assert through its actions the ideas of multilateralism, international cooperation and preservation of world peace, as the ideas on which the League of Nations rested,” Dačić said and added that the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was one of the League of Nations' founders.

The minister said that the Kingdom of Yugoslavia participated in the establishment of the League of Nations with the belief that lasting peace can only be achieved through international cooperation, and underscored that today's Serbia does not have any doubts concerning agreements and observance of international law being the only right way to achieve sustainable peace among nations.

Although the League of Nations did not have the strength to prevent a new, wider-ranging and more horrifying world war, the creation of the League of Nations asserted the correctness of a multilateral approach to resolving joint global challenges, Dačić said.

The Archives of Yugoslavia is celebrating the International Archive Day for the fourth time as a date established by the UNESCO International Council of Archives in 2004, acting Director of the Archives of Yugoslavia Miladin Milošević said.

Within the exhibition, this government institution and cultural establishment presented to the public for the first time the documents from its comprehensive collection of which little is known even in expert circles, Milošević said.

The exhibition of archive documents was organized by Dušan Joncic and Jelena Đuriđić . The exhibits include 225 photographs and documents on the establishment of the League of Nations, activities of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and its participation in the work of the League of Nations.

The League of Nations is an international organization established at the Paris Peace Conference on April 28, 1919.

The Assembly of the League of Nations delivered recognitions to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia on several occasions by appointing its first delegates as chairs at the sessions of the Assembly and the Council.
