Deputy PM Jovan Krkobabić dies

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labor in the caretaker government Jovan Krkobabić died after a grave illness in Belgrade on Wednesda, aged 84.

Deputy PM Jovan Krkobabić dies

Krkobabić was the leader of the PUPS since 2006 as he was appointed for the position shortly after the party was founded.

After the May 2008 elections, the party - which took part in the elections together with the United Serbia and the Socialist Party of Serbia - won seats in the parliament and Krkobabić was appointed Serbian deputy prime minister.

He held office as the deputy prime minister and minister of labor, employment and social policy in the Serbian government constituted in July 2012 and he was also the president of the Pensioners' Association since 1996.

Krkobabić, born in Dalmatia, Croatia, completed his PhD studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the Belgrade University and he was also a member of the People's Liberation Movement in World War II.
