Belgrade - Serbia yesterday was one of the warmest European countries. Blic crew visited several locations in Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad, in which there were up to 48 degrees. How High the Temperature was Really Yesterday Official temperatures declared by the Hydrometeorological Bureau were up to ten degrees lower than on the asphalt, so it is essential to be well prepared to go out whereas it's best to avoid it, Blic writes. In the streets yesterday you could only see a stranger whom high temperatures and lack of air did not prevent from walking and learning about the Serbian capital, which yesterday was officially the hottest city in Europe. But by far the most difficult was to the workers who were putting new asphalt on more than 50 degrees. "If we took turns, it would be easier, but like this, when ten of us are working, it is much more difficult. We do not have cold water to drink, and it is so hot that when the roller sets the asphalt, it gives us possibility to make a cup of coffee if you put a pot on the new asphalt", said one of the workers who put new asphalt in the Metropolita Petra street in Belgrade. His colleague Dragan Petrunic, visibly sunburnt, says that he is so used to the high temperatures that he does not know how they will adapt to lower temperatures. Tropical temperature were measured yesterday in Novi Sad since the morning hours. Thermometer in the hand of a Blic reporter measured 47 degrees at about 1 p.m. at the Freedom Square, and it was 45 degrees in the shade on the pedestrian crossing near Futoska market. 42 degrees were shown in the public GSP bus, and even 44 degrees under the dome of the Liman market. Extremely high temperatures were recorded yesterday in Nis, where the hottest part of the day was about 2 p.m. when there were no persons who did not have to go out into the street. The measuring by the Hydrometeorological Bureau showed that at that time there were 37 degrees Celsius in the shade, while reporters of Blic measured in some locations even 11 degrees more, i.e. 48 degrees Celsius. Countries of the region, as well as the cities of Sarajevo, Podgorica, Zagreb and Ljubljana yesterday also were swept by the top heat wave, and in most places the temperatures were above 42 degrees. As meteorologists say, it will be still nearly the same weather in Serbia today, while refreshment ought to arrive for the weekend. Beta/file/ Blic
