Telenor donates new equipment to maternity wards

BELGRADE Telenor Foundation representatives donated two pulse oximeters to Belgrade Clinical Center’s Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic on Wednesday. This is the first part of Telenor’s donation of 12 machines that will soon be delivered to maternity wards in Vranje, Kragujevac, Nis, Cacak, Pancevo and Zrenjanin. Telenor donates new equipment to maternity wards “This important diagnostic tool in the hands of experienced medical staff will enable better treatment of the newborns and quicker recovery of our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Since the first day of its existence, Telenor Foundation has supported concrete, long-term and sustainable initiatives aimed at improving living conditions for children. We recognized this in the B92 Fund’s Battle for the Babies campaign and now in the Battle for Maternity Wards,” Telenor Foundation Director Ivana Matijevic has said, A pulse oximeter is of utmost importance for the treatment of newborn babies. It can be used to monitor condition of babies with various health problems, such as pulmonary diseases, breathing disorders, heart problems, congenital heart defects. Doctors use pulse oximeters to assess whether babies need additional oxygen or ventilators. (B92) B92 Fund Board of Directors President Veran Matic reiterated that this was not the first time that Telenor Foundationb had taken part in a campaign aimed at helping maternity wards in Serbia. “The moment the Foundation donated an incubator in the Battle for the Babies campaign it was clear that it was not a one-time gesture but a development of a long partnership between the business sector and the community. We believe that such an approach really is the only one that guarantees sustainability of this and similar initiatives because social responsibility is not a thing you have one moment and not the next but it is something that you nurture and develop all the time,” he stressed. “In order provide full equipment to the maternity ward in Visegradska St. it is necessary to secure funds for the purchase of two neonatal ventilators, eight CTG units, 15 patient monitors, 16 infusion pumps, five phototherapy lamps, two sterilizers, ten suction machines, three CPAP machines and other medical equipment,” Matic added and called on donors to join the campaign and help buy new equipment in order to provide an efficient and safe care to the patients. B92 Fund’s Battle for Maternity Wards is aimed at providing equipment necessary for the medical treatment of the newborns to all maternity wards in the country. The campaign was launched on July 1, 2012 and equipment worth about EUR 1.5mn has so far been secured. (B92) B92
