The eight UCPMB members were killed in a clash with Serbian security forces in May 2001. Construction of new memorial to terror group underway The memorial complex will cover 3,000 square meters and will cost more than EUR 100,000. The memorial complex is being build in the village of Oraovica where the anniversary of the biggest clash between Albanian extremists and Serbian forces is marked every May 15. “The locals gave 3,000 (square) meters for it. This is a big project and the entire investment will cost more than EUR 100,000,” local official Faril Azizi has said. The construction began in early November and Azizi said that the memorial complex would be finished before May 15. He said that the money had been donated by citizens, businessmen and Albanians living abroad. “We have money. People give us, businessmen and privately-owned firms,” he explained. Clashes between the Serbian forces and UCPMB members took place in Oraovica from May 12 until May 15, 2001. Eight UCPMB members were killed and 80 were arrested when they tried to leave the village dressed as civilians. A monument to the killed UCPMB members, which was erected last year in downtown Presevo, was removed on January 20. There are several dozens of monuments to UCPMB members near Presevo and Bujanovac and none of them have been removed. B92
