BELGRADE Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia "will never forget those who laid down their lives for their country", and that it was "proud of its army". The first deputy PM and defense minister at the same time asked the president and ministers to help make sure the armed forces have the best possible equipment. MoD and Army host New Year reception "No one can take away our pride, strength and desire to have an army all Serbian citizens will be proud of," Vucic said at a New Year's reception organized by the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff. "We are all proud of members of the army, especially the people who laid their lives at the altar of their country while working on demining and other complex military tasks under the most difficult conditions," said Vucic. "Serbia, our army and the Ministry of Defense will be forever grateful to them for what they did for our country," he said. The defense minister asked President Tomislav Nikolic and his fellow ministers to help procure equipment for the troops, noting that a country as brave as Serbia must have a better equipped army. Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic said that investing in the army meant investing in the state and that the army was entering 2013 in the hope of being a worthy successor of preceding generations. The reception at the Guard House in Belgrade was attended by President Nikolic and Prime Minister Dacic, ministers, religious dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, high-ranking military officials and others.
