BELGRADE Special police units officers from 14 Southeastern European countries successfully completed a counter-terrorism exercise in Belgrade on Friday. The drill was held in Batajnica, at the base of the Serbian Interior Ministry Special (MUP) Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ). Counter-terrorism drill at top MUP unit base The exercise was carried out in the framework of an international counter-terrorism gathering that took place in Belgrade on October 15-19. The goal of the seminar, which featured lectures by two instructors from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), was an exchange of experience between members of special police units. The topic covered during the exercise was hostage rescue tactics. The seminar was attended by representatives of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Serb Republic (RS), Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and the United States. Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic and U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby congratulated the participants on the successfully completed exercise and seminar. more photos (Tanjug) Tanjug
