BELGRADE PM Ivica Dacic says trafficking is best prevented by creating new jobs, reducing poverty and through the social inclusion of the exuded and discriminated. Dacic on Thursday in Belgrade opened a poster exhibition entitled "What Serbia Does Not See", marking October 18, EU Anti-Trafficking Day, and said it was a long-term process and required preventive measures throughout the year. "Job-creation best anti-trafficking measure" The prime minister stated the new campaigns against trafficking will be organized come spring and autumn and that they will be funded by the government. According to Dacic, the police will use posters from the exhibition in national campaigns, because they send clear messages against trafficking, sexual exploitation, labour exploitation and organ trafficking. Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert said the problem was especially highlighted in Serbia, because it is the country of origin, transit and ulitmate destination of trafficking victims. There are 2.4 million victims of trafficking in the world, and 800,000 of those are illegally transported through EU borders, Degert stated. Brussels adopted a directive strengthening the capacities for a more efficient battle against trafficking, which involves stricter sanctions for the culprits. Deputy German Ambassador to Serbia Michael Hassenau said the issue of illegal asylum seekers from Serbia to EU countries, which became significant recently, shed a new light on many issues related to the problem, but also on trafficking, which just pointed to the need of closer cooperation in solving those issues. The German diplomat said the German government had allocated EUR 5 million to fund a regional programme of social security and prevent trafficking in the Balkans by 2015. (Tanjug) Tanjug
