NOVI SAD Workers of the Dunav Grupa Agregati company continued on Monday their now week-long blockade of the Danube River in Novi Sad, north of Belgrade. The workers are using ships to block the traffic on the river, and have announced they would "step up their protest" over unpaid wages and other unmet demands they put before the company's owner, Dusan Borovica. Workers block Danube in protest over unpaid wages The workers' representative Novica Cvetkovic told Tanjug that a ship "could be docked during the day right next to the Road-Rail Bridge", which would render the river completely impassable for tourist and passenger vessels. Borovica informed his workers that he was "only able to pay them two overdue minimal wages these days, and two more later, as the company collects money for works it performed". But the workers said they were unhappy with this proposal, and stress that their protest will be "radicalized" until they receive all six overdue wages. They are also demanding that the company validates their medical insurance booklets and allow for their years of service to be combined - and for the privatization of the company, which employs some 370 people, to be "reexamined, and then annulled".
