BELGRADE Gay Pride Parade Organizing Committee member Boban Stojanovic told B92 that the organizers did not have support of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). He pointed out that they did not have the support of any of the ruling parties. We don’t have SPS’ support, gay parade organizer says “We have not received any support from the SPS or any other ruling political option. Politicians are pretty restrained. They give us less and less of their declarative support every year. It somehow goes without saying in the political life that once they support something, they do not have to confirm it again,” Stojanovic said. Dveri Movement leader Vladan Glisic said on Thursday that they advocated banning gay Pride Parades in Serbia in the next 100 years, just like in Russia. The movement also claims that there is a powerful gay lobby in the SPS. “What we can see is that the SPS in fact has no concrete policy on human rights. We have heard it from (SPS leader) Ivica Dacic and from other members of the party who are supposed to support the parade but they are not doing it,” Stojanovic told Radio B92. He pointed out that a date for the holding of the Pride Parade had been set and that the manifestation would be held on October 6. “What we are waiting for is to see whether things that happened last year will repeat or whether 2009 will repeat itself but in some much more positive context. We believe that the police claims that they will do everything in their power to secure the gathering will somehow lead to the holding of the Pride, meaning the walk” he said. According to him, the preparations for the Pride Parade are going well. The police said on Thursday that they would do everything in their power to enable a safe holding of the Pride Parade in Belgrade. Security services are still working on the risk assessments and everything is being done in order to ensure safety of the Pride Parade participants. Serbia’s PM Ivica Dacic said on Thursday that a decision on whether the parade would be held would be made in several days based on the risk assessments. According to some media reports, Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert is in constant contact with the police regarding the organization and the holding of the parade. (Beta, file) B92
