Belgian government has placed Serbia on a list of safe countries and the country will now process Serbian citizens' asylum requests faster.

Belgian government has placed Serbia on a list of safe countries and the country will now process Serbian citizens' asylum requests faster. “Belgium’s Council of Ministers approved on Friday, May 11, the Safe Country List which, among others, includes Serbia,” reads the Belgian government’s release. Serbia placed on Belgium’s “safe country list” The list represents the latest amendment to the country’s Law on Foreigners which will enable faster processing of asylum applications of citizens from the countries that are on the list. The amendment will also help prevent attempts to abuse the procedure in Belgium, reads the statement, adding that introduction of the safe countries list is the latest measure aimed at reducing the number of false asylum seekers. Aside from Serbia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia and India are on the list. After Serbia was granted the visa free regime, it was decided not to give financial or any other assistance to persons who are deported back to Serbia. Beta
