Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin on Friday presented an icon, gifted by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to Kosovo Serbs. The icon was presented to the priests of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Temple of St. Dimitry in Kosovska Mitrovica. Serbs in Kosovo receive icon sent by Putin Konuzin said Russia strongly supports honoring UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which is the political and legal basis for solving the Kosovo issue. The resolution requires that conditions be provided for a peaceful and normal life of all people in Kosovo, he told the citizens. He said Russia is using all its resources in UNESCO with the aim of restoring destroyed Orthodox holy sites in Kosovo. Deputy Mayor of Kosovska Mitrovica Momir Kasalovic thanked Russia for the humanitarian aid and the gift on behalf of the citizens. Humanitarian aid, sent to the Serbs in Kosovo at the order of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, was delivered Friday to the Serbian Red Cross in Zvecan. The convoy carrying around 300 tons of aid was handed over in the presence of Konuzin and Zvecan and Zubin Potok mayors, Dragisa Milovic and Slavisa Ristic.
