The Institute for Neonatology already received six baby incubators and this way received a half of the number of incubators it needs. B92 Fund donates nine incubators to Neonatology Institute 800 prematurely born babies are treated at the Institute for Neonatology every year. Half of the incubators the hospital had before the first donation were between 25 and 40 years old. “The first step in treatment of a prematurely born child has been raised to the highest European level with the new equipment. These incubators have very sophisticated humidity control, skin and baby temperature, which means that you do not have to additionally approach a child, upset it and perform those procedures,” said Institute for Neonatology’s Mirjana Kostic. The money for the purchase of the incubators was provided by Mineco Group, Kolubara coal mine, Postanska stedionica bank, the Justice Ministry, OMV, Milsped and 329 Serbian citizens with their individual donations. “I think the campaign is fantastic, we have witnessed that the media contribute the most to a success of a campaign. We saw this year when there was an earthquake in Japan that there was a great support in Serbia. Something like that is happening now, if there had not been for the media support we never would have achieved such a great result in such a short time,” Mineco Group’s Bojan Popovic stressed. The “Battle for Babies” campaign has already raised funds for the purchase of about 90 new incubators and it is certain that it will soon exceed the planned 100. “It would not be good to stop now and say the battle is won. It is won but we will use the momentum to get as many incubators as possible. I hope we will collect between 130 and 140 incubators in the next few weeks,” B92 Fund President Veran Matic pointed out. The B92 Fund campaign will form an expert and parent association that will deal with problems of the prematurely born children which should become a part of the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI).
