The Assembly of European Federation of Journalists ( EFJ) will be held in Belgrade June 15-17, it has been announced. The gathering will focus on the social dialogue with employers and freedom of the press, as announced on Thursday by the presidents of the Association of Serbian journalists (NUNS) and the Independent association of Serbian journalists (NUNS). Assembly of EFJ in June in Belgrade UNS President Ljiljana Smajlovic said that influence of media and multinational companies will be the central attention of the assembly. “Serbian journalists were joyful about their arrival ten years ago, believing that they would resist in an easier way to pressures from tycoons and the authorities. Instead, it is revealed that those companies were accommodated easier to the Serbian market, than in bringing European standards to our media market," Smajlovic said. NUNS President Vukasin Obradovic considers that the Assembly of EFJ will be an opportunity for journalists from Serbia to tell about the problems of domestic media. "This will be a good chance to spread in public all dilemmas, that occurred lately regarding the freedom of expression and in this way, to make an additional pressure on the authorities and the state for realizing the basic demands," Obradovic explained. The president of the Trade union of journalists in Serbia, Dragana Cabarkapa warned that the biggest problem is the fact that in Serbia, only in the media, there is no social dialogue. She accused the employers for that, who do not allow or do their best to make the founding of the trade unions impossible. The news conference in Belgrade announcing the EFJ gathering (Tanjug)
