Trade unions of all 15 public communal companies from Novi Sad have rejected the city’s proposal to end their strike. The city suggested that its decision to cut the wages in the companies by ten perceint, which triggered the strike, should apply “only to those with higher wages”. A new protest is scheduled for this afternoon. President of the Striking Committee Zoran Radosavljevic says that the city’s decision to “take money from some and give it to others” is unacceptable. The unions pointed out that the protest will continue today, but that any decision about embarking on a general strike – planned for January 29 – would be made later on. Radosavljevic also said that the City Sanitation company temporarily suspended its strike, “so that the citizens don’t suffer because of the city’s irresponsible policy”.
