SPC Bishop Lavrentije has denied recent speculation that there are lobbies among the bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC). These lobbies, according to some media reports, are trying to push their candidate for the new patriarch. No lobbies in SPC, says bishop The bishop said that the patriarch would be elected “in the best possible and the most dignified manner”. “The Holy Synod of Bishops is a serious and responsible body and no such lobbies exist. I want to encourage our believers and tell them, as well as the whole Serb people, that the Holy Spirit will choose the new patriarch and that the best and the most dignified one will be elected,” Lavrentije told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. “I profoundly believe that the election of the new patriarch will pass in an apostolic spirit and bright tradition of our Church,” said the bishop, who will chair the electoral Synod session, scheduled for January 22, as the oldest bishop by consecration.
