Jat Airways pilot Aleksandar Pfajfer has sued the company for alleged ethnic discrimination against him. This is the first lawsuit filed according to Serbia's new Anti- Discrimination Law. Ethnic German pilot alleges discrimination Reports say that "chief of his legal team Vladimir Sekic said that Pfajfer submitted his lawsuit to the 4th Municipal Court in Belgrade". The pilot stated he was subjected to "systematic discrimination and abuse in his working environment based on ethnic and religious grounds". Pfajfer, a Catholic ethnic German, says he wants the national air carrier to pay him RSD 20mn (some EUR 210,000) in damages, and says the discrimination against him saw his integrity, and mental and physical condition deteriorate. Pfajfer wants the court to determine whether Jat Airways management was guilty of the charges, and to order them to stop with their behavior, reports said. The pilot said in his lawsuit it was because of his nationality and religion that his career suffered, including instances when he was passed for promotion, and denied additional professional training, and cites examples by date. Pfajfer alleges that "all normal communication was severed with him" in early June 2009, while he was previously "for years referred to as General Lehr". Lehr was the German commander in charge of organizing the April 6, 1941, Nazi bombing of Belgrade. The pilot's legal representative said that his flights had "six grave malfunctions in the past year", and expressed his suspicion whether those were "coincidences". Sekic explained that his client decided to sue after so many years provoked by his colleagues and superiors' behavior at the end of May, described as "unprecedented". On July 2, Pfajfer wrote to Jat Airways General Director Srdjan Radovanovic, appealing on him to use his authority and prevent further discrimination and abuse against him, but instead, he received "the last warning ahead of dismissal from service", Sekic said.
