A large number of Belgraders took to the streets on Saturday night to celebrate the Serbian team’s victory in the water polo World Championships. The Serbian water polo team became world champions after beating Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout on Saturday night in Rome. Belgrade celebrates water polo victory Several dozen cars circled the central streets of Belgrade, honking their horns and celebrating the victory of the Serbian team. Several hundred people also gathered at the main city square, Trg Republike, carrying flags, throwing firecrackers and shooting fireworks while chanting “Serbia, Serbia” and “champions, champions.” Many cafes in Belgrade were also filled on Saturday night with people watching the final match in Rome.
