Power has been turned off in Gracanica after residents failed to sign an agreement with the local supplier or pay off bills for the last two months. Last week, Gracanica residents held a number of meetings, but were unable to reach an agreement with Kosovo Electric Corporation (KEK) officials. Electricity turned off in Gracanica At the last meeting on Saturday, residents decided they would pay the agreed EUR 26 per household for electricity usage over the last two months and would continue to pay bills after that, but without signing the agreement. KEK officials would not accept any deal without the signing of an agreement, so they turned off the electricity today. Gracanica officials said that the main reason they would not sign the collective agreement was that it did not give details of outstanding debts from 1999 to today, which run at several thousand euros per household. After today’s power cut, KEK officials and residents continued talks in Pristina in order to find a solution to the problem. Residents of nearby villages started paying their installments last week, after signing a collective agreement with KEK. KEK is now supplying those villages regularly with fewer restrictions.
