Jagodina Mayor Dragan Markovic says that Jagodina Zoo is expected to receive two giraffes as a gift in April or May. “We will not pay for the giraffes, they are a present,” Markovic said, though he did not say who the gift was from. “Giraffes coming to Jagodina Zoo” A competition has been announced for companies interested in constructing an enclosure to house the giraffes, as well as a seal pool at the zoo. Markovic told the Beta news agency that Jagodina was the third most popular travel destination in Serbia, after Vrnjacka Banja and Soko Banja. “We’re entitled to tourism money just like the other cities that were declared tourist attractions in Serbia. It is not true what they say—that they gave me the money because I made the government,” he said. Markovic pointed out that during the government of Vojislav Kostunica, Jagodina had received EUR 270,000 to construct a ski run, and that the current government had simply changed its mind and decided to invest in the zoo instead.
