MUP officers this afternoon in Belgrade intervened against some 50 men gathered to protest against Radovan Karadzic's arrest. The crowd has since dispersed after SRS Secretary General Aleksandar Vucic addressed them to ask them to leave today, and take part in a mass protest planned for later this week. Police, Karadzic supporters clash "I hope we will organize a big, mass protest and that we will demonstrate that we have not killed Serbia," Vucic said. He thanked those present "for loving Serbia, Radovan Karadzic, their nation and for fighting for the state". "Our perseverance is greater than their stubbornness," he told the gathering. Police are still securing the downtown area of Belgrade. Earlier this afternoon, MUP officers intervened after the young men, from a group of several hundred citizens who came to the protest rally, started breaking inventory in nearby cafes, throwing chairs at officers, lighting flares and setting off strong firecrackers. Two cordons of police had the group isolated in between them, while the situation was relatively calm, with occasional scuffles, reports said. Vucic was welcomed at the rally, which also saw flags belonging to the ultra right-wing Obraz movement, and participants wearing t-shirts with printed images of Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic. The trouble in the capital today came after minor incidents last night, when Zandarmerija [Gendarmerie] reinforced riot police in front of the Special Court where Karadzic was interrogated. Elsewhere, MUP in Kraljevo said that local party premises belonging to the LDP were stoned last night, as well a former DS building in that town. No one was injured in the attacks, while perpetrators remain unidentified. Riot police deal with the disturbance (Tanjug)
