A glimmer of joy over fresh successes of Serbia's tennis players breaks through the murky world of politics in today's newspapers' front pages. ALO—"Deluge in downtown Belgrade", the tabloid reports about a short-lived hailstorm in some parts of the capital yesterday afternoon. Press: Tennis triumphs, Belgrade storm, cabinet talks "Jelena wins Rome, Zimonjic Hamburg", says that Jelena Jankovic triumphed at the Italian Open tennis tournament, while Nenad Zimonjic repeated a similar feat in the Hamburg event doubles competition. "Ivica wants amnesty for Marko, Mira and Milanovic", the article purports that the leader of the Socialists (SPS), Ivica Dacic, seeks rehabilitation of the former party leader Slobodan Milosevic's family and close associates, as the cabinet talks are progressing. BORBA—"Serb kitchen kicks in", says that political parties are cooking up alliances on the state and local level. BLIC—Although the SPS denies it, this daily is certain: "DS, SPS negotiations last until dawn". "Storm and hail paralyze Belgrade," more on the bad weather over the weekend. "Passengers jumped through windows", is about the traffic accident near Valjevo when a truck collided with a bus, killing one. "Jelena defends Rome crown", brings details from Jankovic's triumph yesterday, her first title this season. VECERNJE NOVOSTI—"Government one signature away", the daily is certain as it reports on the progress of the SRS-DSS-SPS talks. "Hail attacks Belgrade", more on the storm. Repeated warnings issued by the authorities calling on citizens not to swim at Belgrade's Ada Ciganlija resort are falling on deaf ears: "Boy drowns". GAZETA—"Tomo, do not enter government!", despite reports to the contrary elsewhere, this tabloid claims Radicals' leader Vojislav Seselj has asked his deputy Tomislav Nikolic not to forge a ruling coalition, and to instead "wait for him to return from the Hague Tribunal". But another headline claims what cannot be disputed, "Jelena conquers Rome once again". GLAS JAVNOSTI—Nikolic is interviewed by this paper: "Let Dacic speak his mind already – this or that". "Serbia closes sky with rockets", is about the country's air defenses. "Jelena conquers Rome, Nenad best in Hambrug", the front page also says. DANAS—"SPS: We did not receive DS invitation, DS: We are waiting for final results", more on the trouble putting together a new ruling coalition in Serbia. Some clarity could come from the Electoral Commission, RIK, chairwoman's statement: "Sonja Brkic: Final results perhaps today". KURIR—"How much for Beba", the tabloid explores the finances of Vladimir Popovic, a.k.a. Beba, formerly a close Djindjic aide, now close to the LDP. "Shattered", is about the traffic accident near Valjevo, in western Serbia. POLITIKA—"Hailstorm in Belgrade", the daily leads with the weather story. "Three days of mourning in China", looks at the latest from the earthquake-stricken zone. The newspaper also interviews Woody Allen: "Love in Barcelona". PRESS—"Now Kostunica won't bring down SAA", the tabloid says as it interviews United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovic, also, and perhaps better known as Palma. "Terrible storm in Belgrade", is about the storm yesterday.
