Gračanica radio employees begin hunger strike

Eleven freelance employees of Radio Gracanica, in the Kosovo Serb enclave, have begun a hunger strike today. They are demanding to have their employment status solved after nine years of work. Gracanica radio employees begin hunger strike Editor-in-Chief Zoran Stankovic said that no one from the Serbian government has responded to the demands of the radio station employees thus far, and that they had no other choice but to launch a hunger strike. “Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic made them a promise that he would give them a response in 15 days,” said Stankovic. He added that 11 freelance employees do no have any social or health benefits, and that their monthly wages are very low. Radio Gracanica was founded by workers of RTV Pristina who were forced from their places of work in 1999, and is the first local radio station that began broadcasting after the arrival of the UN mission in Kosovo.
