Serb justice workers in Kosovska Mitrovica continued their protest this morning. They protested in front of the District and Municipal Courts, demanding to be allowed to return to the positions that they were forced out of following UNMIK and KFOR’s arrival in Kosovo in 1999. Kosovo justice workers continue protest Several dozen protestors demonstrated peacefully, adding that they would continue to do so until their demands were met. Portuguese KFOR troops were stationed behind the barbed wire gate separating the protestors and the court buildings. The protest ended without incident. Deputy District Public Prosecutor Nenad Trifunovic said that the Serb justice workers had been protesting since February 21, and that their demands and discussions with UNMIK administration officials had not borne fruit. “We have had contact with UNMIK officials in the last two days. I want to point out that the negotiations were not conducted properly, and that they were nothing but meetings where we put forward our views and proposals, and the other side just listened to our demands. All they said was that our demands would be passed on to more senior officials,” he said. Trifunovic expects serious negotiations to begin in order for a solution to be reached. Some 200 Serbs worked within the Kosovska Mitrovica court system up until 1999.
