Several thousand students in Belgrade are demonstrating against the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence. The dean of the University of Belgrade, Branko Kovacevic, has joined them in a march that will go through Belgrade's main streets, to the St. Sava temple. Students organize Kosovo protest "You are here again, to stand up against injustice done to a sovereign country. You have the full right to be here," Kovacevic told the students, referring to the role the student protests had in the 1990s, and the persistent struggle against the regime of Slobodan Milosevic. Another banner reminiscent of those days is carried at the front of the protest, reading, "Kosmet is world", and, "It will remain ours". The protest, is gaining in strength as students still arrive in front of the Faculty of Philosophy, while participants are chanting, "Serbia has risen", and singing the national anthem, "God of Justice". Not unlike in the 1990s, some high school students from the nearby grammar schools are also joining the protest, Beta news agency says. Ministers Aleksandar Popovic, DSS, and party official Andreja Mladenovic, are also among the protesters. Unlike during yesterday's rampage of mostly football fans who attacked foreign offices and embassies, the police are so far having no trouble with the protest. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and President Boris Tadic said last night that the government will call all parties and citizens to gather for a Kosovo protest in the capital on Thursday. (Beta)
