Belgrade loves its jazz, as was evident during the RTS Big Band concert last night in the capital. The Sava Center hall was too small for all those who wished to attend the gig dubbed, "The Big Band and Guitar Sounds", an event to mark the band's 60th anniversary. Big Band, guests, treated with standing ovations Three established rock guitarists from three former Yugoslav republics, Dado Topic, Vlatko Stefanovski and Antonije Pusic, a.k.a., Rambo Amadeus, joined the Big Band onstage each with four of their songs, but now in new, jazz arrangements. The concert, that lasted for just under two hours, ended with the three embarking on a jam session, aided by the Big Band's own guitar player, Goran Potic. The crowd welcomed the improvisations with a long standing ovation. However, Belgrade is not the only Serbian city deeply in love with jazz. Valjevo, in western Serbia, for the past 24 years hosts an annual festival that brings together the cream of the domestic scene, with Valjevo's own Jovan Maljokovic as the festival's art director and founder. Valjevo Jazz Fest's jam sessions that last until the wee hours of the morning have gained quite a reputation for the euphoric atmosphere that the dedicated jazz lovers and musicians create, and are well-worth attending.
