Serbian playwright wins prestigious award

The New Theatrical Realities Award, aimed at encouraging emerging trends and initiatives in European drama, is a category within the Europe Theatre Prize, regarded as the most important European acknowledgement awarded to an artist's theatrical achievements.

The Europe Theatre Prize was established in 1986 when it gained sponsorship of the European Commission and the European Parliament.

The prize-giving ceremony in Thessaloniki will comprise workshops, meetings and seminars aimed at analyzing the work and performance of prizewinners, along with creative events including presentation of prizewinner shows, works in progress and rehearsals open to the public, past videos, exhibitions and publications.

Belgrade-based Yugoslav Drama Theatre will on the occasion perform “Skakavci” (“Grasshoppers”) one of Biljana Srbljanović’s plays, directed by Dejan Mijač.
