Of course, the influence of peers and family members is most responsible.“They start using alcohol out of curiosity, beginning within the family, imitating their parents, imitating people from their social surroundings. Then they drink when they are happy, when they are sad, or when they want to decrease stress. More than 70 percent of young people consume alcohol every now and then.” psychologist Milica Šćekić said.
According to research done my the Batut Institute, 50 percent of children under the age of 18 drink once in a while, 20 percent get drunk every now and then and seven percent drink on a regular basis.
According to research, nine percent of young boys in Serbia got drunk for the first time at the age of 11. Twenty percent of girls got drunk for the first time at the age of 16.
The Health Ministry announced that a national commission for the fight against drug abuse and alcoholism will be formed.
“Discussions are ongoing for a working version of the strategy and I expect that there will be a clear strategy that will be given to the Government for adoption before the year is over.” Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević said.
Of the registered, recovered alcoholics in Belgrade, more than half are under the age of 30 and 76 percent of alcoholics have their first experiences with alcohol in their homes with the consent of their parents.
