He added that line 55 saw the biodiesel usage rise by five per cent, but stressed that in the EU countries ecodiesel is approximately 15 per cent cheaper than oil. The classic "Ikarbus 103” buses were used in the trials, without any adverse effects on the vehicles’ engines.

GSP’s campaign was made possible by "Viktorija grup" company, which incorporates Šid’s oil factory “Mladost”.

“The new factory, currently in construction, will enable the biodiesel production in Serbia and should open in March next year”, "Viktorija grup" representative Veroslav Janković said.

He specified that Serbian biodiesel will be produced according to the German standards using sunflower, oil beet and soybean. “The quality of biodiesel produced from the Serbian sunflower is as high as that produced in Germany”, Janković said, adding that "Viktorija grup” has offers to export more than 80 per cent of its future production to Germany and Slovenia.

Bearing in mind the favorable environmental consequences as well as the cost-effectiveness of using biodiesel, GSP plans to introduce this fuel on the six busiest lines in Belgrade.

A project similar to that conducted in Belgrade from March 6 to April 12 will start on September 1 in Novi Sad and Subotica, "Viktorija grup" has announced.

"Introduction of biodiesel to Belgrade’s transportation system is the best way to mark the start of the European Public Transport conference, to be held in Belgrade on September 26 – 28“, Slaven Tica said.
