From its humble beginnings in 1961, when only 4 brass ensembles participated, the festival has grown into something that is far from a locally organised manifestation for a small number of enthusiasts. This year more than ever, the festival is being advertised as one of Serbia’s top tourist attractions.The festival has received its official internet presentation, and the dates of the festival have been changed.
Guča Director Adam Tadić told B92 that the Serbian Government has invested more than 150 million dinars in the festival this year.
“Many guests that were here last year will not be able to recognise Guča because the area where the final competitions take place have been completely modified. A stage has been constructed, along with a motel that will be able to house 20 eminent guests in apartments.” Tadić said.
There will also be more competing bands and foreign bands this year than every before.
“Beside our ensembles, seven foreign orchestras from Israel, Poland, Germany, France and Greece will headline the festival, and we expect more than 500,000 guests from our country and abroad.” Tadić said.
“The festival opens at 10 am and 200 brass players who will be participating in the final competition will play the anthem 'Sa Ovčara i Kablara.' The host of the event is Capital Investments Minister Velimir Ilić, and it has been announced that Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica will be making an appearance.” Tadić said.
