24-year-old Nemanja Nesic, a member of Serbia's national rowing team, passed away on Wednesday during a training session in his hometown of Smederevo. Tanjug news agency on Wednesday received confirmation of the reports from the Serbian Rowing Federation (VSS). He was one of the three candidates from Smederevo to go to the Olympics in London. VSS Secretary General Nebojssa Jevremovic said that there was "no indication that anything was wrong with Nesic's health", and that he had regular medical checkups. "There was no sign at all that a tragedy like this could happen. Nemanja was an extraordinary rower, winner of medals at European championships. He was a top sportsman, who took part in the qualification regatta for the Olympic Games only two weeks ago," Jevremovic told Tanjug. "He collapsed in his boat and his coach was very close. He was immediately rushed to shore where an ambulance was waiting. Unfortunately, he had already passed away," Jevremovic said. "Nesic had regular medical checkups, like any other top athlete.
