Power plant trade union continues strike On January 18, they radicalized their strike by blocking the administrative premises of the power plant, located in Obrenovac, near Belgrade. Union leader Dragoslav Ljubicic said that the strike will continue, while electricity production and supply "have not been jeopardized for now". But he added, "we cannot guarantee what will happen next regarding the production, because workers are exhausted." Ljubicic invited PM Mirko Cvetkovic - who is also in charge of the finance ministry portfolio - to meet with the shift workers and hear their demand to have their individual contracts changed in order to receive higher pay. The company's management has in the meantime called on the workers to "freeze their strike", and take part in the talks to find a solution to the problem. The unions are saying that the average basic monthly salary of TENT employees is now RSD 53,691 (some EUR 508). The Labor Law, according to them, states that additional pay for work in shifts can be up to 26 percent of the monthly pay. The average monthly salary in Serbia is around EUR 370. TENT currently accounts for 60 percent of the state-run power company EPS's electricity production, and is the country's largest producer in the sector. The company employs 2,300 workers.
