Serbia's renowned author and academic Milorad Pavic died today in Belgrade at 13:10 CET from a heart attack. Pavic – whose works were among the most translated Serbian contemporary literature – passed away aged 81. A expert in Serbian literature held in high esteem, Pavic was a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad until his retirement. He will be remembered as one of the best translators of Russian classics into Serbian, and as author of short stories, novels, dramas and essays. Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic today sent his condolences to the family, and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU). The details of Pavic's funeral are yet to be announced.
