The University of Belgrade students continued their protest started earlier this week, and were today blocking the city center. However, news agencies reported that a meeting with the authorities this afternoon resulted in the government's decision to meet the student demands. Student protest blocks downtown Belgrade Several hundred protestors previously blocked one of the main bridges in Belgrade, Brankov bridge, across the Sava River. The students first gathered in front of the Faculty of Philosophy, walked via Terazije Sq and Kneza Milosa St., and came to the government HQ in Nemanjina St. where they briefly stopped. After that, the protesters continued toward the Main Railway Station and New Belgrade, where a conference on the application of ESPB was being held in the Sava Center conference hall. The protest organizers said that another group of students started from the city disctrict of Vozdovac toward the government building, where they were to meet with those who would return from New Belgrade. State Secretary with the Ministry of Education Radivoje Mitrovic said earlier in the day that he was convinced a solution for the student demands would be found. The protesters were demanding that the government pay tuition for all those who fulfilled enrolment conditions for the current school year. Some were also demanding that the 48 points needed to have the state pay for their studies should not only apply to last year, but cumulatively, to all previous school years.
