ŠABAC --
More than 100 former workers of Zorka mineral fertilizer plant have blocked the railroad used by a U.S. Steel factory and free zone in Šabac.
After last week’s warning when only two tracks were blocked, the workers stopped traffic on the railroad this Monday.
They also unloaded rocks and metal waste found in the factory onto the tracks.
The protesters have been sleeping inside the factory for the past two weeks, demanding payment of overdue wages from the period before the factory was privatized in July, when Victoria Group from Novi Sad bought it for EUR 3.4mn.
However, the new owner has no obligation toward the money – some RSD 580mn – owed to the former workers.
The protesters were did not receive 13 wages on average.
The railroad tracks that have been blocked by the protesters are used as supply route for several factories in Šabac, and go all the way to the port on the Sava River.
The protest is also disrupting the work of Zorka Transport, which is in charge of the railway traffic and has 60 workers on its payroll.
