The pilot and one soldier on the ground were killed when a Serbian Army (VS) MiG-29 crashed near Batajnica airport this morning, the Defense Ministry has said. According to a statement, one soldier was killed and another slightly injured when the plane hit the ground at around 09:10 this morning. Pilot, soldier perish in crash The victims have been identified as VS Lt. Col. Rade Randjelovic, 47, who flew the plane, and soldier Milan Ulemek, 24. The ministry stated that all the prescribed measures for securing the crash site had been taken, and that a commission had been formed to look into the causes and circumstances of the accident. President Boris Tadic has ordered the VS General Staff to conduct an urgent and extensive investigation following the crash, the president’s cabinet has announced. Tadic has called for an investigation into the causes of the accident in order to establish any possible liability, read a statement. The MiG-29 is a fighter jet designed by the Mikoyan-Gurovich construction bureau in the former Soviet Union. The jet was previously part of the Yugoslav People's Army, the Yugoslav Army, the Serbia-Montenegro Army, and is now part of the Serbian Air Force.
