As Wimbledon enters its second week, Serbia is down to its last hope in the singles competitions. While Novak Djokovic continues to fly the flag, following his comfortable victory against Israel's Dudi Sela, Serbia’s other big hope Ana Ivanovic is out after being forced to retire hurt from her 4th round match with Venus Williams yesterday. Serbian hopes rest on Djokovic as Ivanovic crashes out In fairness to the defending champion, Williams would most likely have gone on to win the match anyway, having cruised through the first set 6-1, with the score tied at 1-1 in the second. Nevertheless, the shoulder injury Ivanovic suffered—while serving an ace to save a break point—will come as a blow to the former French Open champion, just when she seemed to be returning to a semblance of the form that took her to the world number one spot early last year. Ivanovic was inconsolable after the match and was barely able to retain her composure at the post-match press conference. No such problems for Djokovic though, whose further progress never looked in any doubt, as he produced his most convincing display of the championships so far to beat Sela 3-0 (6-2, 6-4, 6-1). He now faces Germany’s Tommy Haas.in the quarter-final, who beat him only a fortnight ago in the final in Halle. Serbian hopes are also still alive in the doubles, as number two seeds Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor, the Canadian of Serbian descent, take on number eight seeds Kubot and Marach in the quarter-finals.
