A vehicle was pulled out of a river canal in Vojvodina last night, along with the bodies of three victims, MUP has confirmed for B92. The accident, reported late last evening, took place at around 23:00 CET Thursday night, near the Dunav-Tisa-Dubav Canal. The cause of the accident remains unknown at this time. The victims include the Serb radical Party (SRS) Novi Sad board president, Zoran Djakovic, and three others. Investigative Judge Ljubinka Cerman said on Saturday that three victims had been identified as Sretojka Markovic, 31, Nevenka Djuricic, 27, and Zoran Djakovic, 53. The body of the fourth victim has not yet been recovered, but she is believed to be Biljana Tepic, 32. The judge said the vehicle, pulled out of the water at 04:02 CET on Saturday morning, will be examined for any clues as to the reason of the accident. She added that the news of the accident, which happened late on Thursday night, came at around 16:30 CET on Friday, and that "nobody can understand how it's possible that so much time could pass without anyone reporting an accident on such a busy road". The investigation of the scene showed that 17 meters of the protective railing were destroyed as the car broke through the barrier and into the Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal. There was broken glass and other parts of the vehicle on the road. Earlier, MUP Protection and Rescue Center Chief Predrag Maric confirmed that three bodies had been recovered, and that the search for the fourth continued. Maric also revealed that MUP had been notified of the accident only on Friday at around 16:30 CET, and said it was "truly strange" that almost an entire day after the crash, "nobody noticed that almost 17 meters of the railing was missing" at the scene.
