Great interest in .rs domains

Some 6800 internet addresses were registered in the first day following release of the new Serbian .rs domain. “By 1700, some 6,800 domains had been registered. We believe that many users of the old .yu domain know that there is a deadline of six months for registration, and that they will register their own domains,” President of the Executive Committee of National Internet Domain Registers (RNIDS) Cedomir Suljagic said. Great interest in .rs domains He said that, of total registrations, half were “premium” domains, those that had the new .rs. extension. “Among the other registered domains, there are 35 percent meant for companies, which are co.rs domains, while 12 percent are individual domains with the .rs extension,” Suljagic explained. He said that RNIDS’ goal was to register 40,000 domains by the end of the year. “Active domains with the .yu extension will be active until at least September 2009. That is the deadline according to ICANN, and RNIDS will try to extend that period as long as possible,” said Suljagic.
